The New York Times - Ai Weiwei is one of China’s most renowned contemporary artists. As the Artistic Consultant for design, Mr. Ai collaborated with the Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron in designing the Beijing National Stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest. But since then he has become an outspoken critic of Chinese government policies on civil liberties and other issues. Mr. Ai, who is interviewed below as part of our “China’s Olympic Crossroads� series, lives and works in Beijing.
