Current projects include the West Kowloon Cultural District masterplan in Hong Kong, the Taipei Performing Arts Centre in Taiwan, and the 200,000sq m Shenzen Stock Exchange in mainland China, due to be completed in 2011.
OMA Hong Kong will employ around 25 architects and urban planners, and will be managed by David Gianotten who has been overseeing many of the practice’s east Asian projects from its Rotterdam headquarters.
The new office will be temporarily based in the offices of management consultant McKinsey Hong Kong before moving to a permanent home, Hong Kong Central, next month.
OMA’s Beijing office will continue to be OMA’s Asian headquarters, and will still be run by partner Ole Scheeren.
