What elements might there be in a future Asian city?
We took out our sketching pen and paper and start imagining the very near future,
taking hints from ideas covered over the past two months and suggestions from our readers.
HIGH SPEED TRAINS
Super fast connections to other Asian cities are the future. Imagine a daily 1.5hrs trip to your office in Singapore and going for awesome streetfood on the streets of Bangkok in the evening before heading to your apartment.
OUT OF SIGHT AND SOUND
Lush greenery act as sound and visual barriers to the buzz around the transport spine.
GO TEAM!
We think a great local team playing in a local stadium, designed by local architects, help to galvanise the city together.
PLEASANT ROADS
Dedicated bicycle lanes, electric buses serving the public, lush vegetation and well-lit streets makes a healthy spine.
CREATIVE CLASS
5-6 storey SOHOs with great shared facilities house a tight community of residents with an abundance of energy and ideas.
WALKABLE
Large canopy vegetation provide shade on the well-paved streets making the city truly walkable.
CIVIC PRIDE
Great civic buildings house community services, affordable healthcare, education and other civic services provided by the city council.
MIND SPACE
Large open spaces, beautiful water bodies give space for these city dwellers space to slow down and refresh their minds
NATIVE PROTECTION
Even with development, the city will respect nature and its' original dwellers. The dense forests will be left as untouched as possible and villages of the natives will be protected and supported by the city.
Central Business District
The business and financial center will be compactly planned and fitted with solar-panels on the roof and other energy saving features installed to take advantage of this. Rooftops also become spaces for urban farming and harvesting.
TRANSPORT HEART
High-speed train links to other cities, huge carparks to keep vehicles out of the rest of the city, vehicular interchanges, plenty of retail and f&b can be found at the bustling city center.

Ample bicycle parking and bikes for rent encourage the biking culture in this city.
AVANT-GARDE PLEASE
Imaginative architecture is given space to exist in the city.

A 24-hours market street free for anyone to participate brings a lively commercial experience.

The old shophouses from last century add a fine grain quality to the city. Old clans retain their homes while some units are adapted for more modern-day occupancy such as chic fashion shops and boutique hotels.

Benches, street lights & water coolers turn the streets into a public living room. And there's reliable free wi-fi for everyone too.
HERITAGE
The city will always have space for 100-year old temples and other heritage buildings despite its development.
